Pork Nutrition Lesson Plans for FACS and ProStart Classes
Lesson Plans
Educators know the importance of teaching students about maintaining a well-balanced, nutritious diet. Minnesota’s pig farmers and the Minnesota Pork Board partnered with the Family and Consumers Sciences (FACS) instructors to create four new classroom resources and nutrition lesson plans that share the benefits of including pork in a balanced diet. The lesson plans include teacher and student files, ProStart objectives, game simulations, lab plans, project assessments, and more information to make learning about pork and nutrition exciting and engaging.
The lesson plans are created for a variety of grade levels, starting with middle school going through to culinary arts classes. From organizing recipe steps to food safety and preparation, standardizing recipes, and hands-on labs, these materials are student and teacher-friendly and field-tested by FACS teachers.
WeCare Principles and Ag Education
There is an added element of agricultural education to each lesson build on the values farmers hold as food producers. The youth are the future of agriculture, so it’s important they learn about it! The WeCare ethical principles are a promise farmers hold to people and the environment. These principles ensure farmers provide safe and nutritious food, raising healthy animals, utilizing practices to protect public health, and contributing to a better quality of life for communities.
